This repository contains some analyses of the data reported in both Turner et al. 2014 and independent measurements of the same set of Drosophila melanogaster lines (DGRP) measured in the Sokolowski lab.

The phenotype in question is larval path-length for Drosophila larvae on a plate of thin yeast paste as a measure of larval foraging behaviour.

Given the controversial nature of the conclusions found in Turner et. al., I will allow my re-analyses of both datasets (again, largely on the same set of lines) to provide context for interested parties to come to their own conclusions. More importantly, all data and scripts are available in this repository for additional analyses. If you do find any errors in my analyses, please let me know.

  1. If you want to just follow the analysis itself, I recommend going to the markdown page which has both all of the code for the analysis, output and figures, and my limited set of conclusions.

  2. If you want to access the analysis scripts themselves you can find either just the straight .R script or the .Rmd = .R + markdown file here.

  3. The data (as .csv) can be found in the data folder. Please contact Dr. Marla Sokolowski if you plan to use the data generated in her lab, as it has not yet been published, and she is providing it to the community to help address issues pertaining to differences between the measurements across labs.
