Installation instructions

Prerequisites

Being a RoR application, the OpenWISP Manager (OWM) can be deployed using any of the methods Rails supports.

Even so, what we are currently using (and find quite stable) is the following enviroment:

You should take these steps to ensure you have the right gems installed on your system.

gem install bundler
bundle install --deployment

Installation

In order to install Ruby Enterprise Edition please refer to www.rubyenterpriseedition.com/download.html and follow the on-screen instructions.

Once checked out owm from our svn repository install the required gems, and other required software, then create an empty database called owm via mysql and set up your database.yml correctly to match your credentials.

Create the GMAPS API KEY file in <owm_root>/config/gmaps_api_key.yml with your own key. See the example file <owm_root>/config/gmaps_api_key.yml.example .

So run rake db:migrate to create an empty database and rake db:seed to populate database with default data. After the steps above you should have a working OpenWISP Manager.

Sample web server configuration

If you are going to use Apache2 and Passenger, you should include the following snippet to your virtual host configuration:

Startup script

The following script (Ubuntu/Debian style) should be named owm-daemons. It assumes OpenWISP Manager is running on ruby enterprise and that the application was deployed to /var/rails/owm. Of course you can change any of that to whatever fits your needs.

As usual, you need to

chmod +x owm-daemons
/etc/init.d/owm-daemons start

and enable the script to be run at boot (e.g., with the update-rc.d command).
