Computer Freezes after pressing RUN on DIA-NN 1.9

My computer (AMD Threadripper, 24 cores, 48 threads, 256 Gb RAM) freezes after starting DIA-NN 1.9 spectral library prediction. It does not respond to anything and requires a force shutdown (unplugging it).

Could be CPU or RAM issue. What you describe is a typical symptom of an overclock, and it’s unsurprising to see it specifically when doing lib prediction, as it stresses the AVX modules of the CPU. I’ve also personally had issues with particular RAM sticks which were unstable at their reference frequency and I had to downclock them.

In general, you can do the following checks (while monitoring the CPU temp just in case):

  • Run Prime95
  • Try DIA-NN 1.8.1 - same?

THanks, I did a RAM upgrade and seems the correct modules might have not been the installed ones.
