Welcome to the Chrome Extensions Workshop GitHub repository! This is a beginner-friendly projects where you can learn about building Chrome extensions and contribute to the workshop materials. Getting Started

To get started with this project, follow these steps:

  1. Fork the Repository: Click on the "Fork" button at the top right corner of this repository's page. This will create a copy of the workshop repository in your GitHub account.

  2. Clone the Repository: Go to your GitHub profile, find the forked repository, and click on the "Code" button. Copy the repository's URL. On your local machine, open a terminal, navigate to the folder where you want to store the project, and run the following command:

git clone <repository-url>
  1. Set Up Chrome Extension: Follow the instructions in the workshop materials to set up the Chrome extension on your browser.

Running Code Locally

After cloning the repository, you can run the code on your local system and test the Chrome extension. Here's how:

  1. Open Google Chrome and type chrome://extensions/ in the address bar.

  2. Enable "Developer mode" by toggling the switch at the top right corner of the page.

  3. Click on the "Load unpacked" button and select the folder where you cloned the repository.

  4. The Chrome extension should now be installed. You can interact with it as described in the workshop materials.

Using Discussions

Discussions is a place where you can ask questions, share ideas, and interact with other learners and contributors. To use Discussions:

  1. Go to the "Discussions" tab at the top of the repository.

  2. Click on "New Discussion" to start a new topic or "Browse" to view existing discussions.

  3. Feel free to participate in discussions, provide feedback, and help others with their questions.

Making Pull Requests

If you want to contribute to the workshop materials, you can submit a pull request. Here's how:

  1. Create a new branch: Before making changes, create a new branch in your local repository using the following command:
git checkout -b <branch-name>
  1. Make changes: Modify or add files as needed for your contribution.

  2. Commit changes: Save your changes to the branch with the following commands:

git add .
git commit -m "Brief description of changes"
  1. Push changes: Upload your branch to your forked repository on GitHub:
git push origin <branch-name>
  1. Create a Pull Request: On your GitHub repository page, click on the "Compare & pull request" button next to your pushed branch. Follow the instructions to create the pull request.

Claiming Issues

If you want to work on a specific issue, claim it to let others know you're handling it:

  1. Go to the "Issues" tab at the top of the repository.

  2. Browse the open issues and find one you'd like to work on.

  3. Comment on the issue, expressing your interest in working on it. For example, write "I'd like to take this up!"

  4. The maintainers will assign the issue to you, and you can start working on it.
