How to Load the HelpMeOut Chrome Extension

These instructions will guide you on how to download the HelpMeOut Chrome extension from github and load it into your Chrome browser.

Prerequisites

  • Make sure you have Google Chrome installed on your computer.

Steps

  1. Download the Extension Files:

    • Locate the green "Code" button near the top-right of the repository page.
    • Click the "Code" button to open the dropdown menu.
    • Select "Download ZIP" to download the extension files as a ZIP archive to your computer.
  2. Unzip the Extension Files:

    • Extract the downloaded ZIP archive to a location of your choice on your computer. This will create a folder with the repository files. The extension is located in the src folder.
  3. Open Chrome:

    • Launch the Google Chrome browser on your computer if it's not already open.
  4. Access Extension Management:

    • In Chrome, navigate to the extensions management page by clicking on the three vertical dots (menu icon) in the top-right corner of the browser window.
    • From the dropdown menu, go to "More tools," and then select "Extensions."
  5. Enable Developer Mode:

    • On the "Extensions" page, you will see a toggle switch labeled "Developer mode" in the top-right corner. Enable this toggle switch by clicking it.
  6. Load Your Extension:

    • After enabling Developer mode, you will see additional options appear on the page.
    • Look for a button labeled "Load unpacked" and click on it.
  7. Select the Extension Folder:

    • A file dialog will open, allowing you to browse your computer's files and folders. Navigate to the location where you extracted the HelpMeOut extension files (the folder created in step 2).
    • Select the src folder containing the extension files, and then click the "Select Folder" button.
  8. Confirm Loading:

    • Chrome will load the HelpMeOut extension from the selected folder. You should see your extension listed on the extensions page.
  9. Test Your Extension:

    • To ensure your extension is working correctly, you can click the "Details" button for your extension on the extensions page. From there, you can inspect and test your extension's functionality.

That's it! The HelpMeout Chrome extension should now be loaded and ready to use in your Chrome browser.
