Inspiration
With the evergrowing hype towards web3, we believe in building a platform that lets people create, find, apply & manage jobs powered by distributed technologies and crypto-currency. That's how we heard about the NEAR platform. That lead to us building this awesome product for the META Build hackathon.
What it does
Jobs by Racoon is a decentralized app that lets you do everything from - being an employee who wants to search and find jobs - to - employers who wish to create public listings of their jobs - making hiring easier than ever with the advent of decentralized technologies. The platform lets you upload your "Resume" to the IPFS. It covers everything that you need to manage job listings, your profile, and a way to keep track of your job applications.
How we built it
Jobs by Racoon is powered by the NEAR platform. It has a "React" front end that efficiently makes use of a Bootstrap Design System. Our file uploads go directly into the IPFS providing a decentralized storage solution. The smart contracts were written in assembly-script - thanks to the "near-as-SDK" and its excellent documentation that made blockchain development, a walk in the park.
Challenges we ran into
The persistent maps in the assembly script were tricky yet we managed to figure out a way to store our jobs and user profiles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that this is our first blockchain project and we've managed to learn and build a decent application in such a short span of time, in spite of working a full-time job simultaneously! It was great fun working with the NEAR SDK which came with some easy to understand examples and really helped us fasten our development process.

What's next for Jobs by Racoon
We're rapidly building out new advanced features that would make the whole job hunting and talent hunting experience on 'Jobs by Racoon' more comprehensive and hopefully will get to launch this on the mainnet to be used by millions of people as more and more people are starting to adopt decentralized applications everyday.
Lastly, we'd like to thank the developers of NEAR network for taking the time to build an amazing SDK and spruce it up with easy-to-understand examples! The great documentation and really fast networking speeds while writing to the NEAR Network blockchain made our development experience so much less stressful and we hope to stay on this network and build more apps and contribute to this community in the days to come!
