Introduction to Git Workshop (Hacktoberfest-2020 @ Ashoka) πŸ’»πŸ’œ

Hello World! The Development Wing of the Computer Science Society at Ashoka University and WireByte the Makers' Club would like to warmly welcome you to our Hacktoberfest 2020 @ Ashoka meetup! In this introductory workshop you will learn about:

  • Version Control Systems
  • Git
  • Create your GitHub account
  • Repositories, commits, forks, branches and pull requests
  • And how to contribute to Open Source Code!

The interactive workshop has 3 checkpoints:

  1. Checkpoint 1 - Creating your GitHub account and confirming whether you have Git installed on your machine
  2. Checkpoint 2 - Creating a repository, cloning a local copy of it onto your system, making some changes and pushing it back to your remote repository all from your CLI
  3. Checkpoint 3 - Forking this very repository and submitting a pull request

Once you've passed all 3 checkpoints give yourself a pat on the back you've successfully completed our workshop and can start contributing to Open Source Code! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Hacktoberfest is a month long celebration of open source contributions and is a brilliant way to get involved with a larger global programming community. While there are many reasons to participate in Hacktoberfest 2020, the biggest one should be to help make meaningful contributions that improve projects! You can read more about Hacktoberfest 2020 here : https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/

⚠️ Please note that the PR you make to this repository will NOT count towards your participation in Hacktoberfest 2020. The open source community is being harmed by people making excessive spam PRs that do not abide by Hacktoberfest's values. Please make meaningful contributions that actually help improve the project - you can join the official Hacktoberfest Discord server to find good repositories to contribute to, search the topic on GitHub, or just contact us!
