Transform Preview Tool lets you quickly check your xdt transform does what you want, from the comfort of the command line.
Grab one of the releases and extract it into a location in your PATH
Alternatively you can build it from source:
$ git clone git@github.com:smcl/tpt.git
$ cd tpt
$ dotnet publish
$ cp tpt/bin/Release/netcoreapp3.1/win10-x64/publish/tpt ~/bin
$ tpt --version
A common use case for this would be checking your ASP.NET Web.config
transform works as intended, so if we applied the Release Web.config transform for a standard .NET Framework app's Web.config:
$ ./tpt --transform Web.Release.config --source Web.config

- The executable is enormous - see if we can trim it down somewhat. It's basically got the .net runtime bundled so maybe one small step could be creating one for those who already have it. Some mention of possible solutions in this recent HN thread https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23254283 and .NET 5 at least acknowledges that it could be good to have this. Also CoreRT was a thing for a while (check on it)
