CODATA Recommended Values

CODATA recommended values of physical constants.

See ‹https://physics.nist.gov/cuu/Constants/index.html›.

All CODATA recommended values are defined as a constant and as a function. The function returns three values, the value of the constant, the standard uncertainty, and the relative standard uncertainty. Floating-point numbers are of the type ‘long-float’. Please note that some of the constants have values which can not be represented as IEEE 754 single precision floating-point numbers.

Usage:

(ql:quickload :codata-recommended-values)

(defun E (m)
  (symbol-macrolet ((c codata-recommended-values:speed-of-light-in-vacuum))
    (* m c c)))

The latest values are available via the ‘codata-recommended-values’ package. If you need a previously issued value, append the year to the package name, for example, ‘codata-recommended-values-2010’. There are packages for the years 2022, 2018, 2014, and 2010.

Unit Tests

The test procedure requires two definitions from my ‘rs-cll’ library which is not available in Quicklisp. However, you can execute the unit tests by calling

(asdf:test-system "codata-recommended-values")

The expected output is listed below.

CODATA-2010: 335 assertions passed, 0 failed.

CODATA-2014: 335 assertions passed, 0 failed.

CODATA-2018: 354 assertions passed, 0 failed.

CODATA-2022: 355 assertions passed, 0 failed.

STRING-VALUES: 1379 assertions passed, 0 failed.

Unit Test Summary
 | 2758 assertions total
 | 2758 passed
 | 0 failed
 | 0 execution errors
 | 0 missing tests
