One of my hobbies is buying and selling makeup. Makeup has a heavy mark up, and the beauty industry pushes layers of products. A full set of makeup for someone who uses every product type could easily cost $200+.

As a side note, yes, this is why makeup should be optional for women. Many women find it fun, but beauty is hugely expensive and the marketing often pushes a very rigid set of parameters for being "beautiful".
