SUMMARY
------------

This program interfaces with an inertial sensor and estimates attitude using a quaternion Kalman filter based on Daniel Choukroun's "Novel Quaternion Kalman Filter" : http://ae-www.technion.ac.il/library/tae_view.php?id=5

It is written in Haskell, mostly because I wanted to learn Haskell. I like using the hmatrix-static library because it assures there aren't too many bugs at compile time. I like using the rest of Haskell, too. It isn't perfect for this project because garbage collection might interfere with soft real-time - I need to investigate this further.

It interfaces with a 3-axis magnetometer, accellerometer, and rate gyro sensor over a serial port. Software and documentation on the sensor can be found at http://moreproductive.org/autopilot and http://github.com/pchickey/p4l-ahrs. In serial.hs, you'll find code which parses messages from the p4l-ahrs sensor, calibrates the raw readings against predefined constants, and prints calibrated readings to the screen ('displaycalibrated'). You'll also find a quick-n-dirty utility for sensor calibration, 'displayminmaxs', which I used to determine the minimum and maximum outputs of the sensor in controlled situations. 

There is a simulation module for verifying the filter's performance with generated measurments, found in QkfTest.hs. Right now it only does pre-determined measurment sequences, two sample functions used are 'statictest', which simualtes a unit step at initialization, and 'velocitytest', which simulates a ramp at initialization, and levels off after 25 samples. The calls to 'plotLists' in these functions provides plots of the input and simulation response. 

There is also support for OpenGL rendering of a cube given a quaternion, which can be found in Cube.hs. To animate the cube based on a simulation, QkfTest.hs includes a function iotest which posts filter output to an SampleVar, and Cube.hs reads this SampleVar to update the screen during the glut Idle callback. The 'runcube.hs' program moves the cube according to a simulation 'iotest' from QkfTest.hs, but it is currently broken as I've changed some of the cube interfaces.

There is a cube and gnuplot based sensor test program called 'runsensor.hs'. 'plotresults' reads a Chan stream and has some utility functions for plotting the inputs andoutputs. 'loopAndSend' communicates with the cube module. There is a link to the demo video below.

In the paper/ directory, you'll find the LaTeX source of my report on this project. I'll post a PDF once its done.
