Description of FIG Transactions

The Transactions Foundational Interest Group (FIG) is dedicated to creating open source and standards for the transfer of ownership and receipts required to audit and verify objects. This work includes the relationships between the transacted objects, transacting parties, auditing, ledgering, and proof of receipts required for the verifiable authenticity of transactions across centralized and decentralized systems. See the FIG's charter for full details.

What does the Foundational Interest Group do?

  • Identify and utilize centralized and decentralized ledgers or blockchains to properly scale massive microtransactions and authenticity checks for identifying and using objects or services.
  • Understand and extend legacy centralized transaction systems and how decentralized systems can and should be used on a mass scale. This work includes Decentralized Identifiers and how they may be used, including endpoints, documents, or objects targeted by DIDs.
  • Identify and define a data model for use and integrity surrounding the metadata that may or may not be embedded within an object and may be used in a decentralized manner.
  • Create the network communication and exchange protocols for previous, current, and future transactions across unrelated systems. Identify secure layers to provide a selective disclosure of information to a transaction across endpoints and on the network.
  • Provide a model for auditing receipts for all relationships involved in a transaction, including but not limited to user, object, agreement, and enforcement.
  • Define a usable model for automated and process-driven arbitration for transactions in question by trusted partners and related parties.
  • Create a modular model for virtual, digital, and physical currency transactions with logistical controls of transfer and auditing.

How do I get involved?

  • Contact us on Discord. The FIG has a specific chat channel #transactions
  • Attend any of our public meetings by connecting to the #transactions voice channel on OMF's Discord server. See the OMF Calendar for upcoming meetings and details.
    • The FIG hosts a weekly meeting on Wednesdays at 1:00pm ET / 18:00 UTC / 7:00 PM CET to discuss Transaction based features, recently contributed work, pending RFCs, and other items of interest to the FIG. Look for the meeting titled FIG-Transactions on OMF calendar. Meeting agendas are posted in advanced as GitHub discussions and anyone can raise points for discussion.
  • Subscribe to our mailing list, which is used for polls, discussions and features database.

Who can attend or participate?

The OMF cannot work without the help and input from as many of its community members as possible. You do not need anyone’s permission to get involved and contribute to the project. The #artificial-intel channel on OMF Discord is a great place to begin getting involved. Many of our community members regularly share ideas, updates, and resources there. You can also find a number of topics under the GitHub Discussions area which need your input.
