org-tree
I could not decide whether I wanted to have many org files or just one, so I decided to aim for the best of both worlds.
If you choose to use multiple files, you then face the dilemma of linking your files together. You also have two levels of nomenclature: the logical flow of your org tree, and the physical paths on your system. However, using multiple files works well when you have lots of content or want to segregate notes by project, etc.
org-tree
allows you to link org files together through a SUBTREE
property.
With an ID and this property, which references another org file, that file’s
contents become a logical subtree to the headline. So, when it matters, you
just see a continuous outline path.
org-tree
abstracts away the physical representation of your org files as much
as possible. So it is possible to let the attachment directory functionality
manage all your files. I do exactly this. I have index.org
in my root Org
directory, and then everything else is autofiled according to ID. This helps
reduce the headache of maintaining two separate naming schemes.
