Setting up the Grunt dev environment

Grunt setup (first time Grunt users)

! Before starting this, you must have installed Node.js on your system. If you haven't used Grunt before, be sure to check out the Getting Started guide.

To work with Grunt, you need two files in the current working directory : gruntfile.js + package.json (can be created simply with npm init)

Open your System Command Prompt and navigate to your project folder
Install Grunt Command Line Interface globally (-g) => this will make the grunt command available in any folder of your system

npm install -g grunt-cli

Install Grunt locally and include the dependency in package.json with the --save-dev command :

npm install grunt --save-dev

This will create a node_modules folder in the root folder

If you are using git, create a .gitignore file and add /node_modules to ignore it in your commits
Run shell npm install => it will install all the Grunt dependencies for the project based on the package.json file

5bis) if you need to install a grunt modules and add the dependencies in the package.json with --save-dev, run for example :

npm install grunt-contrib-less --save-dev

In your project root folder, create a .ftpauth file including the credential to your FTP remote server. Used to automate the FTP pushs. This file should be written like this :

In your system command prompt, run grunt : grunt [taskname], for example run

grunt customizr_dev

Running the Grunt tasks

All tasks are declared in the gruntfile.js in the customizr_tasks object. There are two main tasks : customizr_dev and customizr_build, using sub tasks.

customizr_dev uses the watch event to triggers all the development tasks (less compiling, jshint, ...) and reload the browser page.
customizr_build is run just before releasing a new version of the Customizr theme
