sphinx bio take home challenge - platter

Madhav Sharma

stack

  • react through nextjs with tailwindcss for the frontend
  • nextjs with a edge postgres instance powered by neon
    • exposing a public API too, ingested inside the app + maximal use of SSR and CSR features to increase performance
  • deployed and scaled with vercel

features

  • everything in the challenge PDF
  • performant CRUD : plate + wells
  • type-safe + form and database validation
  • intuitive UI, click on empty wells to create a new one there; click on existing ones to modify;
  • minimizes queries with CS caches and connections through pooling in the db
  • sphinx themed : )
  • easter eggs 😳 ?

/api/exps/<uuid> for experiment/plate CRUD

api/wells/<comb_id> for well CRUD, comb_id is a composite uuid based on row-col-and-plate-key

This was a lot of fun to build, I have ideas on how to improve this app and would love to talk more about my design choices and future extras on a call : )

talk soon!

This is a Next.js project bootstrapped with create-next-app.

Getting Started

First, run the development server:

npm run dev
# or
yarn dev
# or
pnpm dev
# or
bun dev

Open http://localhost:3000 with your browser to see the result.

You can start editing the page by modifying pages/index.tsx. The page auto-updates as you edit the file.

API routes can be accessed on http://localhost:3000/api/hello. This endpoint can be edited in pages/api/hello.ts.

The pages/api directory is mapped to /api/*. Files in this directory are treated as API routes instead of React pages.

This project uses next/font to automatically optimize and load Inter, a custom Google Font.
