Usage

Clone this repository and cd into it. To build, use make.

To launch the server:

./ircserv <port> <password>

Connecting to the Server Using IRSSI

This project was developed for the IRSSI client. After launching irssi, run the following command:

/connect localhost <server_port> <server_password>

Connecting to the Server Using NetCat

Alternatively, connect to the server using nc, netcat or ncat, whichever one has the -C or --crlf options to enable CRLF for EOL sequence: the IRC protocol specifies that messages are only valid if they end with \r\n.

nc -C localhost <server_port>

Then, you can input your IRC commands. To properly register on the server, use the following commands:

PASS <server_password>
USER <user> <mode(unused)> <host(unused)> <realname>
NICK <nickname>
