- Choice of GFR estimator affects GFR calculations. MDRD was used in reference to Chen et al. (4).
- According to the National Kidney Foundation, laboratories should now be using a creatinine method that has been standardized or tracable to isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS). The way creatinine levels are calibrated affects the GFR estimating equation. (3)
- The creatinine measurement unit (μmol/L versus mg/dL) affects the GFR estimating equation. Creatinine levels in μmol/L are converted to mg/dL in our calculator by dividing them by 88.4. (5)
- The value maximal rise in plasma creatinine per day is ambiguous. See Chen et al. for a discussion of this topic. (4)
