Bridge is an RIT server security bot.

A Discord bot that protects your server against alternative accounts.

Key FeaturesHow It WorksGetting StartedFunctionsInviteCredits

An alternative account, or alt account is an additional account created by a single user of a platform. Although often harmless, they can be used for malicious purposes and become a nightmare for management to keep track of.

With an influx of malicious alternative accounts in RIT communities, Bridge exists to solve this issue unintrusively.

Trusted by numerous community servers:

RIT Freshmen Nexthop Gravitron Effective Altruism Brick City Bound (Incoming Freshmen Server)

...protecting over 1500 total members.

Key Features

  • Automatically maintains bans from a list of known alt accounts:
    • Accounts created for the purpose of ban evasion
    • Spam/advertisement accounts
  • Logs what invite link a member used when joining a server.
  • Allows communities to report new suspected alternative accounts

What Bridge doesn't do

Bridge does NOT do any of the following:

  • Ban or moderate legitamate members across multiple servers
  • Email or identity verification
  • Collect information of usual server activity

How it works

Bridge operates using a database of alternative accounts Accounts suspected to be alts can be reported from within RIT servers. Reports are judged by admins of a Bridge Management Server, available to join upon request for higher management roles of RIT servers. When an account is determined to be an alternative account, it it added to the database, and Bridge will ban the account by ID across all servers it is in.

Bridge implements an open-sourced version of ritV by mae.red, an RIT server security database and library.

Getting started

After inviting Bridge to your server, run /setup to access the Bridge Setup Panel. The Setup Panel will guide you through the steps necessary to get started, and can be run at any time to adjust preferences.

Bridge Setup Panel

Never select a publicly available channel or role for these options!

  • Mod Channel: for important reports, updates, and RIT server-wide warnings. We recommend using your server's private moderation channel.
  • Log Channel: for join logs and non-urgent information.
  • Moderator Role: a role that should be allowed to use /report. We recommend setting this to your server's moderator exclusive role.

Once all values are set, Bridge will automatically ban all known alternative accounts from your server.

Functions

Report alternative accounts with /report

/report <member> <reason>

This command will send a request to the Bridge management server to have a suspected alternative account banned.

Example usage of the report command.

What happens behind the scenes

Reports sent to the Bridge management server contain the following:

  • The report's origin (no invite link will be made)
  • The report's reason
  • A view of other Bridge servers that the reported account appears in
  • The reported account name, PFP, and user ID.

An embed containing a report with the origin, reason, ID, Name, and Mention in an embed

Logs and Alerts

At any point in time, if an alt account Bridge bans was present in your server, an alert will appear in the selected mod channel.

Embed sent by Bridge warning about a member existing in a server

Whenever the list of knowns alts is updated, Bridge runs through every server it is in and verifies that all known alt accounts are banned. If a newly added alt is not present in a server, the ban will be applied silently. Every time bans are refreshed, Bridge will say so in the log channel, reporting any additions.

Embed sent by Bridge titled "Ban list reloaded" with the description "46 total entries, 1 new bans in the server"

Invite tracking

When a member joins your server, Bridge will send relevant information about the member in the log channel. Invite tracking embed, containing information about account creation date and the invite code used to join.

Inviting Bridge

The official instance of Bridge is being deployed to RIT communities. Please reach out to @mae.red on Discord if you are an admin of an RIT server and would like to add this bot to your server.

Authenticity

Before hitting the "authorize" button at the permissions section of its invite, check that Bridge has been active since Sep 15, 2023.

If this line does not match, you are most likely being scammed.

Feature requests

If you already have Bridge in your server and you want it to do more, please consider that this is not a general purpose server bot. If your community needs further cross-server mechanisms, it would best be done seperately.
