Unnamed-compiler
This project is a compiler for an as-yet unnamed language based syntactically off of Jakt.
Much of the current code is based off of translating the Jakt self-hosting source into python. Future plans include native code generation via LLVM.
Python versions supported
As of writing, the current version of llvmlite supports python versions 3.7 to 3.10, thus this project also requires a python version within that range.
Project Goals and Rationale
The primary goal of this project is to learn from Jakt's implementation through reimplementing its core logic in Python, as well as to learn the basics of code generation using llvm.
I decided that instead of simply forking Jakt and adding LLVM codegen directly to it, a reimplementation would force me to engage with the entire codebase and give me a much more holistic view of the internal structure of the system.

Typechecking code translation is mostly complete. All functions have been implemented, however bugs prevent the script from completing a typechecking pass.
Next steps
- Debug typechecking, parsing, and lexing until a complete typechecking pass will complete.
- Figure out basic code generation using llvmlite.
- Figure out how to compile and link the Jakt prelude to our code generation.
