This cookbook installs and configures New Relic agents.

Recipes

default

Include the default recipe to install and configure the New Relic infrastructure agent.

default

The default recipe will validate required attributes and do basic platform detection to decide which platform specific recipe to include.

linux

The linux recipe:

  1. Adds the newrelic-infra package repository source
  2. Installs|upgrades|removes newrelic-infra package
  3. Sets up the newrelic-infra agent service
  4. Sets the newrelic-infra.yml config file

  • node['alphard']['newrelic']['license'] - Your New Relic license key.

Infra

  • node['alphard']['newrelic']['infra']['license'] - Your New Relic license key.
  • node['alphard']['newrelic']['infra']['action'] - newrelic-infra package actions. Values:
    • 'install': (Default) Installs package. If 'version' is specified, installs specific version.
    • 'upgrade': Installs package and/or ensures it's the latest version.
    • 'remove': Removes the package.
  • node['alphard']['newrelic']['infra']['version'] - Specify newrelic-infra package version to pin.
  • node['alphard']['newrelic']['infra']['configuration'] - A hash to add all newrelic.yml configuration file settings
  • node['alphard']['newrelic']['infra']['configuration']['verbose'] - Log verbosity setting. Type: String
  • node['alphard']['newrelic']['infra']['configuration']['proxy'] - Your proxy url if required.
  • node['alphard']['newrelic']['infra']['configuration']['log_file'] - Your log file path
  • node['alphard']['newrelic']['infra']['configuration']['display_name'] - Your infrastructure display name

Usage

  1. Add the alphard-chef-newrelic cookbook dependency to your metadata.rb or Berksfile
  2. Set node['alphard']['newrelic']['infra']['license'] attribute with your New Relic license key
  3. Include default recipe or add it to your run list
