Install

npm install instagram-web-api

Usage

Intance Instagram and call login method; this stores the credentials in memory.

2 Factor Authentication

The following 2FA methods are supported:

• Secret key
• Six digit code (changes every 30 seconds)

SMS based 2FA is not yet supported

Usage

const client = new Instagram({ username, password, twoFA })

Getting a secret key

1. Open Instagram from a mobile device
2. Click your profile picture in the bottom right corner
3. Open the hamburger menu on the top right
4. Click Settings
5. Click Security
6. Click Two-Factor Authentication
7. Click Authentication App
8. Click Set Up Another Way at the bottom of the screen
9. Copy the long key that consists of random letters and numbers -> This will be your secret key
10. Open Google Authenticator (or the app you use to store 2FA keys)
11. In Google Authenticator click the plus icon at the botttom left of the screen
12. Click Enter a setup key
13. In the Account name field you can type anything you want to (ex. Instagram (username))
14. Paste the key you got from step 9 to the Your key field
15. Copy the 6 digit code that Google Authenticator has generated
16. Go back to Instagram, and click Next
17. Paste the token
18. Click Next then click done

Instagram(credentials, opts)

Initializes the client.

  • cookieStore: An optional though-cookie cookie storage, which allows for persistent cookies. Default is undefined
• opts
  • language: The language of response from API. Default is en-US
  • proxy: String of a proxy to tunnel all requests. Default is undefined

Login in the account, this method returns user (true when username is valid) and authenticated (true when login was successful)
