The second extended filesystem (ext2) in java. Multithreaded. Read/Write support. Object Oriented.
I wrote jext2 as part of my Bachelor’s Thesis about java filesystem performance evaluation. It was never meant for anything other than research. It solves a couple of interesting problems that you encounter with a filesystem in java. For example the lack of unsigned data types, efficient buffer handling and large bitsets.

Jext2 is a nice toy. It’s a working ext2 filesystem written in java, while other implementations (I am aware of) are written in C. It’s object oriented and uses the java asynchronous tasks style to handle multithreading.
Jext2 is far from complete and will probably never reach any mature state. I’m not really interested in supporting the project any longer, but if you have a question feel free to contact me.

As filesystems are delicate business, consider yourself warned: Jext2 will probably destroy your data. Don’t mount your home or anything else important with it. Jext2 doesn’t have a distinction between read-only and read-write mode. There is really no safe way to mount data you want to keep with it. It’s a toy, nothing more, nothing less.
