French Austral Lands and Seas species

This list of 177 species is a subsample and snapshot of the known biodiversity of the French Austral Lands and Seas, and seems particularly relevant for fish, mammals and birds. Regarding identified species of algae and invertebrates, some of the species are a good match with known species of the area, while others are known in Antarctic waters and temperature seas only but are clearly absent from the subantarctic area. Interestingly, some species of very badly known taxa (e.g. bryozoans, algae, sponges..) would need further investigations as they indicate the potential occurrence of species still unidentified in the area. Finally, many species of algae and marine invertebrates are missing from the list.
