Pokedex App

Welcome to my Pokedex app! This React application pulls from PokeAPI, allowing users to search for Pokemon, view their details, and navigate through the Pokedex.

Features

  • Search for a Pokemon by name.
  • View detailed information about the selected Pokemon, including its image and base stats.
  • Navigate through the Pokedex using previous and next buttons.

Prerequisites

Please ensure you have the following installed on your machine:

  • Node.js - JavaScript runtime
  • npm - Package manager for Node.js

Getting Started

  1. Clone the repository to your local machine:

    git clone git@github.com:gretchenlam/pokedex.git
    
  2. Change into the project directory:

    cd pokedex
    
  3. Install the project dependencies:

    npm install
    

Usage

  1. Start the development server:
    npm start
    
  2. Open your web browser and visit http://localhost:3000.
  3. In the search bar, enter the name of a Pokemon (e.g., Pikachu) and click the "Search Pokemon" button.
  4. View the details of the selected Pokemon, including its image, Pokedex number, types, and base stats.
  5. Use the back and forward arrow buttons to navigate through the Pokedex.

Future Features

  • Switch between male and female to showcase differences between Pokemon genders.
  • Switch between normal and shiny sprites.
  • Show front and back moving sprites.
  • Improve sprite quality.
  • Display evolution lines, and let users navigate through Pokemon in that line.
