Introduction

HarmoniMix is a web-based music recommendation platform that leverages a dynamic algorithm to curate personalized playlists based on user preferences. Whether you're a music enthusiast or someone discovering new genres, HarmoniMix tailors recommendations to suit your unique taste.

The Journey

Embark on a musical adventure with HarmoniMix, a project born out of a passion for music and the desire to create a personalized music recommendation experience. As a software engineer and AI enthusiast, I set out to blend technology with the art of music curation, striving to provide users with a platform that understands and adapts to their unique tastes.

Inspiration

The spark for HarmoniMix ignited during a late-night coding session fueled by a playlist that just didn't quite hit the mark. That frustration turned into inspiration, and the idea of HarmoniMix was born—a platform that tailors recommendations with the precision of a maestro, ensuring each user finds their perfect rhythm.

Technical Challenges

Building HarmoniMix wasn't without its challenges. The heart of the project lies in a dynamic recommendation algorithm that learns and evolves with user interactions. Choosing the right algorithm, tweaking parameters, and ensuring real-time responsiveness pushed the boundaries of my technical skills.

The Recommendation Algorithm

HarmoniMix employs a hybrid recommendation algorithm combining collaborative filtering and content-based filtering. This harmonious blend allows the platform to understand user preferences based on their history while also introducing them to new and diverse tracks.

Real-time User Feedback

The user feedback mechanism was a crucial aspect. Users can like or dislike songs, providing invaluable data to fine-tune recommendations. Implementing this feature required not only technical finesse but also a deep understanding of user experience.

Struggles and Triumphs

I won't sugarcoat it—there were moments of frustration, late-night debugging sessions, and instances where the algorithm seemed to have a mind of its own. But with each challenge, there was a triumph, a breakthrough that brought HarmoniMix closer to its musical utopia.

The Next Movement

HarmoniMix is a living project, and the journey doesn't end here. The next iteration envisions incorporating sentiment analysis to better understand the emotional connection users have with songs. I also plan to enhance the UI, making it even more immersive and visually stunning.

Getting Started

Prerequisites

Before running HarmoniMix, ensure you have the following installed:

Node.js
npm

Installation

Clone the repository:

git clone https://github.com/ggbaguidi/HarmoniMix.git

Install dependencies:
```
cd HarmoniMix
npm install
```
Start the application:
```
npm start
```

Spotify API Setup

To use HarmoniMix, you'll need to set up a Spotify Developer account and create an application to obtain the required credentials.

Go to the Spotify Developer Dashboard and log in or sign up for a Spotify account.
Create a new application and note down the Client ID.
Set the Redirect URI in your Spotify application settings to https://localhost:3000/callback or the URL where your local instance is running.
Create a .env file in the root of your project and add the following:
```
REACT_APP_CLIENT_ID=your_spotify_client_id
REACT_APP_CLIENT_SECRET=your_spotify_client_secret
```
Replace your_spotify_client_id and your_spotify_client_secret with the values from your Spotify application.
Restart your HarmoniMix application.

Now, you're all set to run HarmoniMix locally with Spotify integration!
