sniff2

sniff2 can be used for:

  • inspecting UI components and widgets on GNOME desktop
  • generating a behave-like (BDD) directory structure
  • writing GUI tests together with dogtail framework
  • dumping application node tree

'Installation'

  • make sure you have installed dogtail and behave
  • put sniff2 and queryEditWindow into /usr/bin/ or wherever else
  • put sniff2.ui into /usr/share/dogtail/glade/

Behavior

  • currently, the queryEditorWindow writes:
  • dogtail queries (the actual Python def stubs) into ~/dogtail-behave-projects/${app}/features/steps/steps.py or to example-app if no app is specified
  • behave steps (the actual scenarios for given test(s)) into ~/dogtail-behave-projects/${app}/features/general.feature
  • queryEditorWindow currently overwrites the general.feature and steps.py files
  • node dump is written to /tmp/-sniff-.dump

Usage

Besides what the previous version of Sniff can do, you can right-click on:

  • any application or any of its nodes to create the dogtail query and behave steps
  • create node dump up to 100000 nodes (can be changed via dogtail.config._Config.childrenLimit (int))

Open Sniff2 -> Preferences, where you can set custom path for your project(s)

You can:

  • select part of the dogtail query after context.app.instance. and execute it on the fly before writing it to the steps.py file
