Introduction

A cargo runner for cortex-m embedded projects using probe-rs to find and flash the device with the passed in executable and watch for RTT log events.

This project consists of two crates:

probe-rs-rtt-runner

The cargo runner to be used. To enable it for your project, cargo install this project (or build and remember the path to your target directory) add a .cargo/config file with, for example, (at least) the following content:

[target.thumbv7em-none-eabihf]
runner = '<path to your>\probe-rs-rtt-runner[.exe] --verbose --chip STM32F401'

If chip is not provided, probe-rs will try to determine it automatically. Supported chip families can be found in https://github.com/probe-rs/probe-rs/tree/master/probe-rs/targets.

logger-rtt

A Rust logger using https://github.com/wez/jlink_rtt to be used by the embedded project. Initialize at start with rtt_logger::init(log::Level::Trace); or any preferred min logging level. Log using the log crate.

TODO

  • Add API to communicate microcontroller’s clock & frequency at startup to display accurate timestamp of log events

  • env_logger-style filtering & colorized logging

  • Clean exit on CTRL-C (On Windows, the COM port sometimes remains open)
