BHS-QI-GMB: Bronx Healthy Start QI via Group Model Building

Welcome to our repository of information and tools to support collaborative planning, implementation, and monitoring of Bronx Healthy Start (BHS) community programs and services. BHS is a federally-funded initiative to address disparities in maternal and infant mortality in at risk communities of The Bronx (HRSA-19-049; No. 160477; Strelnick, PI). To promote an ethos of continual Quality Improvement (QI), we have organized monthly Group Model Building (GMB) sessions. These sessions will be guided by best practices in system dynamics (SD) modeling, a rapidly evolving, interdisciplinary field of systems science research. SD adds value to traditional QI and evaluation methods by building system thinking skills and by co-creating models and other tools that can help manage the delivery of evidence-based maternal health interventions.

Schedule of Group Model Building Sessions

Location: Einstein Campus, 1300 Morris Park Ave., Block Building, 4th Floor Conf Room

Session 1. Getting started: Systems thinking and action to reduce infant and maternal mortality in our communities
(Thursday, 16-May-2019 from 8:30am to 11am)

Session 2. Introduction to system dynamics model building: Using simulation to 'see' the problem (and its solutions!)
(Thursday, 20-June-2019 from 8:30am to 11am)

Session 3. More model building: Sources of information to support key assumptions and parameters in our simulation tools
(Thursday, 11-July-2019 from 8:30am to 11am)

Session 4. Understanding complexity: Examining the interplay of BHS services (enrollment, case management, counseling & education, and access to care) with stated program goals and outcomes
(Thursday, 19-September-2019 from 8:30am to 11am)

Session 5. Quality improvement scenarios: Modeling to learn how to meet or exceed BHS benchmarks for enrollment, case management, counseling & education, and access to care
(Thursday, 31-October-2019 from 2:30pm to 5:00pm)

Session 6. BHS action plans: Designing and implementing model-informed strategies that impact infant and maternal mortality in our communities
(18-December-2019 from 2:30pm to 5:00pm)
