Small script to display all used SSH fingerprints for easier verification.

Install

Simply download the ssh-fingerprints script and put it somewhere into your PATH

What are those pretty ASCII pictures?

Those are visual representations of SSH fingerprints. If you don’t have recent ssh client, which allows you to Copy&Paste Algo and Fingerprint line, you can use them for easier verification by eye.

With even small change in fingerprint, resulting ASCII art is totally different so it is easier to verify valid key with quick glance.

Motivation

I believe that you should never SSH into any server without verifying its fingerprint first.

It would be kind of easy to use default ssh-keygen command if not for the fact, that there are multiple ciphers and algorithms in play.

As part of my job is preparing new server for users, I was searching for easier way. And found only this question on superuser, which finally motivated me to wrote this IMHO missing piece. With it, you can get all needed info for users with one command.
