Ágnes Drong has taught us informatics between 1992 and 1994 in the Zipernowsky Street Elementary School (as how it was called back then), in Békásmegyer, a neighborhood of Budapest. In the 5th and 6th grade. She has taught my older brother too, but to his class only mathematics. I remember that my brother's class didn't like her much, because they considered her strict. Regardless, she enjoyed some popularity in my class. To this day, she is one of my favorites. I got to know many teachers in elementary school, high school or at the university, teaching programming, but I've never met anyone else than her who created software for fun and shared it with others. I was proud when sometimes she asked me to debug one of her programs which caused her some headache. Each program she wrote was aimed at exercising specific topics in mathematics. She wrote them in BASIC, to be more precise, in the dialect of GW-BASIC. One of them provides exercises for conversions between different metrics. The user has to convert a randomly generated value from one metric to another. A different program draws geometrical shapes and either asks for their names or about their specific properties: is it obtuse or right? Does it have have 3 symmetries? Are its diagonals perpendicular? The files shared on this page ended up in my possession only years later. Interestingly I received them from an ex-classmate of my brother, who had a copy of them on a 3.5 inch floppy disk. This happened roughly around the junior or senior year of high school. He kept contact only with my brother, but one day when he visited him, he also brought the disk, because he felt that I would be interested. I was. The original versions of the programs can be found in the original folder. These are not readable as a text file, but you can load them in GW-BASIC, which you can run in DosBox for example.
