Custom Kinoite / Silverblue Images for Framework 13 AMD

This is a customized Universal Blue Image for the Framework 13 AMD edition.

Update 11/28/23 - Silverblue based builds are now available. See installation below.

Update 11/29/23 - There was an issue with the 11/28 build where /etc/profile got overridden and causes issues, please make sure you upgrade. Previous builds were fine.

Tl;dr - Kinoite Image, Silverblue Image, enjoy. More details below.

Installing

Note this image has been tested with UMA set to Game Optimized, more info here.

To install if you are already on Silverblue / Kinoite or an ostree install:

rpm-ostree rebase ostree-unverified-registry:ghcr.io/achhabra2/fw13-amd-kinoite:latest

Reboot and then run:

rpm-ostree rebase ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/achhabra2/fw13-amd-kinoite:latest

If you want to try the Silverblue images:

rpm-ostree rebase ostree-unverified-registry:ghcr.io/achhabra2/fw13-amd-silverblue:latest

Reboot and then run:

rpm-ostree rebase ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/achhabra2/fw13-amd-silverblue:latest

To install from scrach you can find the ISO here. Use your favorite media writer, I have used Balena Etcher.

Post Install

  • Run just fw13-amd to set kernel parameters
  • Run just epp_power or another power setting to what you require -- note this does not persist a reboot
    • UPDATE - as of the 11/28 build you don't need to do this anymore
  • (Optional) If you don't want Flatpak based browsers the Brave repo is included, you could also use Firefox-wayland
    • rpm-ostree install brave-browser or rpm-ostree install firefox-wayland
  • (Optional) Use rpm-ostree kargs --append="" for any other kernel parameters you need (eg. amdgpu.sg_display=0, amd_iommu=off, rtc_cmos.use_acpi_alarm=1, etc)
  • (Optional) If you want to use the included ICC Profile
    • Use colormgr get-devices and find the display device id
    • Use colormgr get-profiles and find the ICC profile id
    • Use colormgr device-add-profile device_id profile_id to associate the profile with the device
