Just Natsuki

Disclaimer

Please note that as Just Natsuki is currently undergoing a complete overhaul, any/all mod content under the overhaul is liable to change or be removed without prior warning.

In addition, we unfortunately no longer offer support to those running the (now-outdated) older version of Just Natsuki, as we are focusing our efforts on a version that will completely supercede the old distribution.

If you are looking for a complete mod experience, this is not something we are ready to offer just yet: please rest assured that announcements will be made when the time comes, and we make every attempt to keep our community updated through our official communication channels (GitHub, Twitter and Discord).

However, if you are interested in helping to making Just Natsuki the best it can be, we welcome your support! Please feel free to clone the repository, suggest new content by raising an issue, or try out the mod yourself and let us know about any problems by raising bug reports.

In short

• Do not expect a complete, polished experience at this stage in development.
• Do not expect progress made by playing under the overhaul to be supported into release, or further in development: you may need to delete your persistent to play newer versions of JN before release.
• Progress made by playing under the old distribution of Just Natsuki will not be supported in the overhaul.
• Do not expect support if you are playing the old distribution of Just Natsuki. It is discontinued.

What to expect from Just Natsuki

Just Natsuki canonically takes place following the events of DDLC+ and DDLC, and focuses on fostering and developing a relationship between a restored Natsuki and the player responsible for bringing her back from her deletion.

As you spend time with Natsuki and grow closer, new things to talk about and new features will become available: we stress that players enjoy the journey, rather than focus on the destination! As an effective dating simulator, the focus is on the adventure of the relationship as opposed to simply trying to unlock features as fast as possible - enjoy what you find as you find it!

To this end, Just Natsuki has no endgame, end goal or ending - we strive to deliver regular updates so there's always a reason to spend more time with your favourite tsundere.

Installation

1. Download a fresh copy of DDLC from https://ddlc.moe.
2. Extract/unzip DDLC.
3. Download the JN mod files: go to https://github.com/Just-Natsuki-Team/NatsukiModDev, then select the Code tab and make sure the branch master is selected. Click the green Code button, and then select download ZIP.
4. Extract/unzip the JN mod files.
5. From the JN mod files, copy the game folder contents (all of it) into the game folder of DDLC. If asked to replace files, select Yes.
6. From the JN mod files, copy the lib folder contents (all of it) into the lib folder of DDLC. If asked to replace files, select Yes.
7. You may already have a persistent from the old version of JN - this must be deleted.
   1. For Windows, you can find it here: %APPDATA%/Roaming/RenPy/JustNatsuki
   2. For OSX, you can find it here: ~/Library/RenPy/JustNatsuki
   3. For Linux, you can find it here: ~/.renpy/JustNatsuki
8. Finally, launch DDLC.exe.
   1. If you are on OSX, you may have to review your security settings for the game to launch properly; please see the guidance listed here.

Updating

Please note that until automatic updates are implemented, any updates released must be installed manually using the following instructions:

1. Download the new JN mod files: go to https://github.com/Just-Natsuki-Team/NatsukiModDev, then select the Code tab and make sure the branch master is selected. Click the green Code button, and then select download ZIP.
2. Extract/unzip the new JN mod files.
3. From the JN mod files, copy the game folder contents (all of it) into the game folder of your JN installation. If asked to replace files, select Yes.
4. From the JN mod files, copy the lib folder contents (all of it) into the lib folder of your JN installation. If asked to replace files, select Yes.
5. Finally, launch DDLC.exe.

FAQ

• I downloaded and installed the mod files, but the game is still vanilla DDLC.
  • Double check your installation - remember that mod files must be extracted/unzipped, as well as the DDLC base game files.
• I downloaded and installed the mod files, but the game is nothing like the screenshots on the website.
  • You may have installed the discontinued distribution of Just Natsuki: delete your installation and retry with the instructions above. Remember: the only official mod files are from GitHub!
• I downloaded and installed newer mod files, and now my game won't launch.
  • You may need to delete your persistent file: make a copy and delete it, then try launching DDLC.exe.
• How do I report a bug with the mod?
  • Please log a bug report through the Issues on GitHub, clicking New issue, then selecting Report Bug. Only one bug per report, please!
• How do I request support for the mod?
  • Please log a support request through the Issues on GitHub, clicking New issue, then selecting Support Request. Only one item per request, please!
• Where can I make suggestions for the mod?
  • Please log a feature request through the Issues on GitHub, clicking New issue, then selecting Feature Request. Please note we do not take suggestions from any other avenue of communication. Only one suggestion per request, please!
• Can I join the team?
  • Invitation to join our team is based on visible contributions to Just Natsuki and/or related DDLC mods, skillset, and participation in the DDLC community as judged by the team. Please do not ask to join directly!
• How do I progress in the mod/unlock a specific feature?
  • Simply put, all good things take time. Visit Natsuki often, explore your options and most importantly, treat her well! Please remember - this is a long-term mod, with relationship progression happening over weeks and months: so check in and update often!
• How do I update the game?
  • Please refer to the instructions listed here.
