blender_addon_m17n_tools is a script to assist in the multilingualization (m17n) of add-ons.

Steps in Multilingualization

  1. wrap the string you want to make multilingual with _( and )

  1. run the blender_addon_m17n_tools.py and output m17n.py (any name is ok)

  1. call register function in m17n.py at add-on startup

Cautions

  1. f-string cannot be multilingualized. replace with str.format and use iface_(.
  2. Multi-line strings are not supported. #1
  3. Operator display names context needs to specify the Operator.

How to update m17n.py when the code is changed

Run blender_addon_m17n_tools.py with -o option again to update m17n.py.

generate subcommand

usage: blender_addon_m17n_tools.py generate [-h] [-o OUTPUT_PYTHON_FILE_PATH] [-k KEYWORDS] [--default_locale DEFAULT_LOCALE] [--default_context DEFAULT_CONTEXT] [--no_output_utilities] input_python_file_paths [input_python_file_paths ...]

positional arguments:
  input_python_file_paths
                        input python file paths (allow files as well as directories)

optional arguments:
  -h, --help            show this help message and exit
  -o OUTPUT_PYTHON_FILE_PATH, --output_python_file_path OUTPUT_PYTHON_FILE_PATH
                        path of the output file (default: None)
  -k KEYWORDS, --keywords KEYWORDS
                        space-separated list of keywords to look for in addition to the defaults (may be repeated multiple times) (default: _ iface_)
  --default_locale DEFAULT_LOCALE
                        default locale (default: en_US)
  --default_context DEFAULT_CONTEXT
                        default context (default: *)
  --no_output_utilities
                        do not output utility functions (default: False)

analyze subcommand

usage: blender_addon_m17n_tools.py analyze [-h] [-k KEYWORDS] [--distance_ratio_threshold DISTANCE_RATIO_THRESHOLD] input_python_file_paths [input_python_file_paths ...]

positional arguments:
  input_python_file_paths
                        input python file paths (allow files as well as directories)

optional arguments:
  -h, --help            show this help message and exit
  -k KEYWORDS, --keywords KEYWORDS
                        space-separated list of keywords to look for in addition to the defaults (may be repeated multiple times) (default: _)
  --distance_ratio_threshold DISTANCE_RATIO_THRESHOLD
                        threshold for the ratio of distance / len(msgid) (default: 0.5)
