This is a simple bot that listens to the RSS feed of your choice and posts an update into a selected discord channel.
- Please find the installation instructions for your respective environment here.
Fork this repository by clicking on the fork button on the top of this page. This will create a copy of this repository in your account.
- Go to your GitHub account, open the forked repository, click on the code button and then click the copy to clipboard icon.
- Open a terminal and run the following git command:
git clone "url you just copied"
- where "url you just copied" (without the quotation marks) is the url to this repository (your fork of this project).
- Run the following commands in the terminal to install all the required dependencies.
cd ElihuBot
npm install
- Create a new file called
.env
in the root of the project. - Add the following environment variables to the
.env
file.
DISCORD_TOKEN=YOUR_DISCORD_TOKEN
GUILD_ID=YOUR_GUILD_ID
GUILD_CHANNEL_ID=YOUR_GUILD_CHANNEL_ID
- Create a new application in the Discord Developer Portal.
- Go to the bot tab and create a new bot. Also select all the privileged gateway intents for the bot.
- Copy the bot token and paste it in the
.env
file in theDISCORD_TOKEN
field. - Go to the OAuth2 tab and select
bot
in the scopes section. - Select the permissions you want to give to the bot. Here we have selected
Send Messages
andManage Messages
. - Copy the generated link and paste it in your browser to add the bot to your server.
- Then enable the
Developer Mode
in the Discord settings to be able to copy ids, by going toUser Settings > Appearance > Advanced > Developer Mode
. - Right click on the server icon and select
Copy ID
to copy theGUILD_ID
and right click on the channel you want to post the updates in and selectCopy ID
to copy theGUILD_CHANNEL_ID
and paste them in the.env
file.
- Run the following command in the terminal to start the bot.
npm start
- You should see the following message in the terminal.
