Data Analysis through SQL - Football Match Analysis

This repository contains the results of a data analysis project focused on football match data. The analysis was performed using SQL queries to extract insights and answer various questions related to football matches. The dataset used for this analysis includes information about different football matches, including teams, scores, seasons, dates, and other relevant attributes.

The analysis includes the following key aspects:

Data Checking and Data Cleaning

  1. Matches by Manchester United: A summary of all matches played by Manchester United, along with their results.

  2. Season-wise Performance: Seasonal breakdown of Manchester United's wins, losses, and draws.

  3. Home and Away Goals: Breakdown of home and away goals scored by Manchester United by season.

  4. Average Goals (2015/2016): Calculation of the average goals scored in the 2015/2016 season.

  5. High-Scoring Teams: Identification of teams that scored more than the average goals in the 2015/2016 season.

  6. Team Count by Countries: Count of teams grouped by their respective countries.

  7. High-Scoring Games: Identification of games with more than 10 goals.

  8. Draw Percentage: Comparison of draw percentages across different leagues.

  9. Average Home and Away Goals: Calculation of average home and away goals scored by Manchester United by season.

  10. Match Date Breakdown: Conversion of match dates into day, month, and year components.

  11. Manchester Derbies: Records of all Manchester derbies and their outcomes.

  12. Oldest and Youngest Players: Identification of the five oldest and five youngest players.

  13. 2011/2012 EPL Standings: Reproduction of the English Premier League final standings for the 2011/2012 season.

Files and Folders

  • euro-dump-cleaned-mysql.sql: Contains the dataset used for analysis.
  • result.sql: SQL queries used to perform the analysis and answer the provided questions.

How to Replicate the Analysis

  1. Clone the Repository: Clone this repository to your local machine.

    git clone https://github.com/Nitesh-Pant/European-Soccer-Database-SQL-Analysis.git
  2. Set Up Database: Import the dataset into your preferred SQL database management system (e.g., MySQL).

  3. Execute Queries: Open the result.sql file and execute the SQL queries in your database management system. These queries will generate the results for each analysis aspect.

Acknowledgments

The original dataset used for the analysis is sourced from European Soccer Database. Convert the .sqlite dataset to .SQL format suitable for MySQL. Look for MySQL in the discussion forum. The already cleaned dataset used for this analysis has been sourced from the Cleaned European Soccer Database
