What an anti climax, I didn't get to write anything.. well..
There is a common misconception that javascript suck... people have so little imagination, let me tell you what sucks: html.
The current version and abilities/ possibilities within html are the main pain points of the web. You never would have chosen html/css/javascript today.
What should we do? Well the dream scenario is an api like that of kubernetes. Where data and rendering configuration is controlled in similar yaml. And inheritance/ basic functionality is controlled by referencing apiVersion/kind-pairs. Think of a Web experience where you could reference the rendering engine via apiVersion, what a cool place!
But anyways we would still be stuck with the issue of having a single file to code for your entire page which eventually requires a scripting language for handling more complex situations.
Which brings us to client side multi document html-pages. We (developers) even work with this for many years, using html-templating. The webconsortium only have to expose same marshaling apis.
