Here is an idea for an introductory plot... the code is in /RScripts/Explorator_Plots.r

This is an excellent plot. Trends are very evident here (such as the overall decrease in unemployment during each presidency. I'm still wondering how I can get the embedded signal from this data.

I think in this case we just need to remove the seasonality... See the updated script in exploratory_plots.R. I used additive decomposition to extract the trend.
