Universal Forwarder

Use the FreeBSD universal forwarder on OpnSense at splunk.com

Note you will need to enable ssh on the firewall under system > settings > administration to install and configure the UF via ssh, or log into the console directly.

Input Requirements

Set the sourcetype to "opnsense" in the inputs.conf file on the forwarder, the actual data type will be automatically identified on ingestion.

i.e.
