SmartChess

SmartChess is a Bluetooth enabled, smart Chessboard. SmartChess utilizes an integrated circuit to recognize where there are pieces on the board. That information is sent to the accompanying app, which provides the user with a live view of the board. The app can give hints, recommend moves, and enforces legal moves.

Gyroscopic-Watch-Winder

When my first mechanical watch was passed down to me, I decided I wanted a watch winder to keep it running optimally. I thought gyroscopic winders looked fascinating, and I also discovered that they are better for the watch. I designed one to be made using my home 3D printer.

Hearing-Aid-Charging-Case

Since I was young, I have suffered complications with my eardrums. As a result I have lost a significant amount of hearing. I recently made the decision to buy a hearing aid, to help myself hear more clearly. The case of the hearing aid I purchase has a flawed mechanical and electrical design. It does not fully enclose the hearing aids and it must be plugged into the wall to charge them. I wanted to make the experience more seamless for myself so I decided to design my own charging case, inspired by the Apple AirPods case.

Modular-Sidewalk-Robot

During one of my Co-Op terms, I worked with a team at an emerging startup to develop a modular sidewalk robot. During the winter, the robot is able to plow snow and spread salt on the sidewalks. During the summer, it is used for lawn mowing, sidewalk inspections and delivery. The robot has a 360° field of view, and can be remotely operated or operate itself autonomously. It is also equipped with a microphone and speakers, in order to communicate with pedestrians, and emergency stop buttons as a fail-safe stopping system. I worked on all aspects of the robot, including, mechanical design, drivetrain, electrical design, soldering and assembly.

UW-Baja-SAE

As Team Captain and Powertrain Lead of the University of Waterloo Baja SAE team, I am leading design of an off-road vehicle, set to compete in 2022. I am designing components including the transfer case, transmission, and differentials. I am also overseeing chassis, suspension, and electrical design. Below is a render of our competition-ready vehicle, including; chassis, suspension, axles, engine, and interior.

Tensegrity-Table

Tensegrity or tensional integrity, is a structural principle that applies when a set of elements remain in place and balanced, due to a continuous tensile force. After seeing a lego tensegrity structure, I decided to expand on the idea and make a table with the illusion that it is floating. I first designed the table in SolidWorks to ensure that the supporting arms would align. The table was then built from dimensional walnut and glass. It can hold an estimated maximum weight of 300 lbs.

Toronto-Custom-Woodworking

After high school, a close friend and I started a business making custom furniture. Our first two projects were river tables, made from pieces of live edge wood with a “river” of epoxy. After these tables, interest in our work began to grow and we gained a larger client base. For each client, we create 3D CAD models of table and leg designs that will best fit their space and style. The furniture is all hand made using our own tools and tools from a local tool library.
