Pagination not working as expected

There seems to be an issue with pagination after the last pagination fix. When pagination is enabled, the frontpage stops listing posts, as shown:
By commenting the pagination from the _config.yml the list of posts on the frontpage works as expected.
This was an error on my part, when having an index.md instead of index.html.
