Let the user subscribe to the calendar

We should have a button/instructions on how to subscribe to the calendar events.

The ics file is exposed at /events/all.ics: https://muscat-tech.org/events/all.ics

@zidhuss where should the button be?

That's a good question 😅

I was hoping someone smarter than me would come along and figure it out.

haha, not sure if I'm the best person to figure it out, haha...

I think it could be:

  • A banner on top of the calendar.
  • A button close to "today" button.
  • A link in the footer.

How about a Floating Action Button like this? Easy to reach and gets the point across with ease.

This could be a little bit of an overkill imo, but I'm all down for implementing it.

I think the important part is displaying instructions/context for the subscribe button.

I agree. I like your suggestions of having a button somewhere.

We could then link to a new page /subscribe that has instructions on how to subscribe. We're planning to add a feature to allow for subscribing to weekly emails for upcoming events. That's also something that could be added to the subscribe page at a later date.

I kind of see what you mean after letting the idea stew for a while 😅
I guess keeping simplicity in mind, a hyperlink in the footer/header would be a good solution. Would fit well into @zidhuss future ideas for the subscribe page too

@zidhuss @safwanyp should I go with a simple footer link for now?
