A quick note on platform support can be found here:

Any news on this baby?

很期待Windows版本

Windows should be priority cause it`s usage is more than 90% of all operative systems. This project is looking good 🚀

Waiting for this amazing project to come to windows and linux :D

I'm really interested in this editor, a Windows version is more than welcome!

Sorry for being a spammer, but from what i've saw this project is amazing, i would really want to try it on my Windows machine, hope i can soon

Can someone lock the thread so I won't get those annoying notifications?

Windows strongly preferred. Work issues Macs but I use Windows and Linux at home. I'd love to use Zed, but if there's a cross-platform alternative like vscode, then that will win because all my tooling is the same and I don't have to mentally switch between workflows.

I did also vote in the Linux issue.

@hronro Can’t you see the huge unsubscribe button on the right?

Too many spam in this issue. Let me correct my words, there is no valuable info in it. Can’t you guys use the reaction button to express your feeling over spamming the similar words?

What @Borber said let me know you can’t. OK, I’ll unsubscribe this issue because of you guys spamming. Great jobs. Have fun on spamming others without any help.

insanely looking forward to it

Hey y'all – we know you are looking forward to Windows. Going forward you can express your support by 👍🏽 the original post. Thanks!

Thanks to multiple people for pointing out a locked conversation can't be voted on.

I'm going to unlocked it, but please Use the 👍🏽 button instead of leaving comments like "me too" or "+1"

Here is what should be a comment:

  • "Have you considered how ___ thing will work in the windows version" (How might it work differently if it is something with different conventions than macOS?)
  • "Here is something useful that might help y'all when starting on windows"
  • etc

Otherwise please upvote the original post. We know everyone is looking forward to their respective platforms being available.

I can't find a newsletter regarding updates for the windows platform, can you guys consider making a mailing list because I can't check the website every time. Thanks!

What are the primary barriers to Windows support at present? And if they're tractable, are you open to contributors helping to provide support?

...wish I could work on a Mac, work requirements... 😔

This project looks good dude, really waiting for linux and windows support.

Hey,

Do you know that "According to StatCounter and Statista, Macs still only account for about 15% of desktop computers worldwide, while Windows has more than 75% market share"

My questions is:

Why Zed industries developed Zed IDE first version for Mac and not for Windows users ?
It's make no sense for me.

Thank you

Its probably because they use mac

But if you look at developers, it accounts for roughly 46%

This product seems to be the game changer. I'm very much interested in this code editor and waiting for support it on Windows OS.
Since Windows OS has the most user base therefore you are requested to release this software for Windows as soon as possible.
Thank you.

I think the Zed team have been pretty clear about the roadmap. Multi-platform is a long term goal and you can upvote this issue to show your support. I’d appreciate if we could respect that. Otherwise, I’m afraid this issue will just end up being locked and nobody wants that.

when to windows T_T
btw looking forward to contribute <3

We will let you know when windows support is under development. The Zed team isn't taking feedback on when we start on windows support, nor why we didn't start with windows.

The amount of people on each platform isn't relevant, as it starts with the base assumption that more people = better to the Zed team. Growth driven development unlikely to lead to a resilient, high quality product long term.

Please keep this issue on topic. I'll reiterate:

Please use the 👍🏽 button instead of leaving comments like "me too" or "+1"

I don't think they have even started working on this yet. As far as I know, the current implementation heavily relays on Metal API, which only exists on macOS.

I appreciate the internal priorities are probably be different and that's perfectly ok. After all, Mac's are a giant portion of developer OS market share.
However, I'm going to unsubscribe from this repo, as for me Windows support is important and I don't see it getting prioritised any time soon. If it gets picked up again at some point, I'll notice if the industry likes this editor then, but at the moment it would have a lot of catching up to do, feature-wise, anyway, let alone stand out from the incumbent competition.

When windows support finally comes please let me know i miss atom

I suggest to open another locked issue only posting announcement from developer team. This one is left for general discussion.

MacOS users don't like your comment (5% of the reactions)

Cross platform support is still very much on our radar and we’re dedicated to support both Windows and Linux in the future. As we've previously stated, we aren't taking feedback on the roadmap for platform support and as such we've decided to lock this issue. Any update regarding this will be noted on our website.
