Contacts not having displayname r not listed

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. A contact with all three - o, cn & displayname fields empty should be 
present.
2. Search for this contact.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The expected output is that the contact should be displayed.
Instead it shows message 'Sorry not found.'


What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?


Please provide any additional information below.
In our ldap log, I found that it fired 3 different searches with each field. 
After that it did not fire a search with mail. If it would have fired the 
search with mail it would have got the id.
