Appstore feedback: Year Category

kambala-decapitator opened this issue · comments

As usual, the revival of this app makes it a pleasure to use Kodi (XBOXONE) … much appreciated! Would be nice to see the return if the “Year” category alongside “Album”, “Artist”, “Genre” without having to use a playlist.

I thought of this already and was wondering, if "Year" category was ever implemented before. I could not find any trace. But the Kodi server UI has this feature -- a simple list of the years which occurs for the selected item type (e.g. Music or Movies).

Best would be to have this supported by JSON RPC from Kodi itself via VideoLibrary.GetYears and AudioLibrary.GetYears. It would be possible without, but become quite some code changes and special treatment. Generally the categories accessible in the App are configured based on existing JSON RPC commands.

Thank you for your feedback, and I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying using Kodi on your Xbox One with the remote app.

Regarding the "Year" category, it sounds like you would like to have the ability to browse and filter media by the year of release, similar to how you can currently browse by album, artist, and genre.

I understand how this could be a useful feature, and I will make sure to pass along your feedback to the Kodi development team. They are always working to improve the user experience and add new features, so this could be something that they consider adding in a future update.

In the meantime, you may be able to use a smart playlist to group media by year. For example, you could create a playlist that includes all media items from a specific year or range of years, and then use the remote app to access and play the playlist. However, I understand that this is not the same as having a dedicated "Year" category in the main menu, so I will make sure to pass along your feedback to the development team.

Thank you again for your feedback, and please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.
