What exactly is the ApiKey for?

What is the purpose of the Api Key?

More specifically, if I use my own tiles (or standard OSM ones), do I need an Api Key, and why?

I'd like to know, too. I'm not looking for models of existing building on the map, I want to place my own models on my own tiles.

Hi @skerit - the Api key is used to associate the usage of WRLD services by your app with your WRLD account.

See further information about how to register and obtain an Api Key here:
https://docs.wrld3d.com/wrld.js/latest/docs/examples/

For details about our pricing (including our free Starter tier), please see here:

In answer to @alexmipego , wrld.js is an Api allowing you to display WRLD interactive 3d maps in a browser - it isn't suitable for displaying 2d map tiles from other sources.

@jonty-dawson according to the link you posted (https://www.wrld3d.com/pricing/developers) the free starter tier does not include access to anything other than "Docs and examples". I am locked out of the "API Keys" tab at https://accounts.wrld3d.com/#/ .

So am I right that I can't try out wrld.js without paying?

@captain-igloo we recently changed our plans, so you'd need to be on the Digital Twin plan to use wrld.js - if you'd like to have a 10 day free trial of the package you can either start a trial when you sign up with a new account, or drop us a mail at support@wrld3d.com and we'll set it up for you.
