Hello,

Glad to share that this project is shortlisted for Rails Girls Summer Of Code 2020, a global fellowship program for women and non-binary coders. Students receive a three-month scholarship to work on existing Open Source projects and expand their skill set.

Feel free to ask your doubts here. Kindly note that the coding period starts from 1st July. I recommend you to go through the open issues and have an idea prior to the program. There will be more first-timers issues opened by us soon.

Hey @vinitshahdeo to apply for this program, we need to be in a team. Do you have any guidelines for us?

@minolipvartak Thanks for showing your interest. Please find your teammate and apply here. Kindly note that your teammate should be living in the same region.

Hi @vinitshahdeo RGSoC applicant here. We're the team Dee Dee & Dexter
I have working experience with both Python & JavaScript but my teammate @somu-10 works with Python.
You mentioned earlier that this project also has Django backend, Is it possible to apply at RGSoC for that as well?
(For RGSoC, we can discuss a roadmap where I can work on both frontend and backend issues, and my teammate can work on some frontend, majorly backend issues?)

Also, during RGSoC application process, what are your expectations from applicants? We'd love to contribute to some issues starting with smaller ones, or anything else you suggest which may not be code contribution.

Hello @accakks,

Glad to hear from you.

It is absolutely not a requirement that applicants start contributing to projects beforehand. Solving first-timers-only or easy issues might give you a sense of the codebase, a feel for what the project is like. I recommend you to have a look into the existing codebase - README.md has every piece of relevant information. Kindly note that this project is in the initial phase of development.

Feel free to share your Roadmap @ vinitshahdeo[at]gmail[dot]com.

For the team selection, there are plenty of other factors including the mentor's preference - the selection committee makes the difficult decision on which teams are selected. I'm fine with working for the selected team on Django but the selection committee might prefer Node.js as it's mentioned on the website - not sure though. Learning the REST API design using Node.js is sufficient to proceed with the backend development for this project. And yes, coaches will be available throughout the program to help you.

Lemme know if you have any other questions - would love to answer :)

All the very best, Team Dee Dee & Dexter!

Hi @vinitshahdeo, This is Megha, RGSOC aspirant from Delhi. We are team void and me along with my teammate @kuja24 has experience in both Django and Node js. We found this project really interesting and would like to work upon the same, I wanted to inquire if we can solve issues with GSSOC tag. Or it would be great if you could please suggest us some issues to get started.

Hello @megha070,

Thank you so much for showing your interest. The issues with GSSoC tag are opened for the GSSoC participants. As of now, I recommend you to go through the existing code. Soon I'll be opening a few issues dedicated to RGSoC aspirants.

Good luck, Team Void!

Hi, I wanted to know the general design theme that I have to keep in mind while designing mockups, are their any templates/themes/demos available?

@divided7 Can you please discuss the same on #2?

Please check out the README.md for more information.

Hi @vinitshahdeo :)
PoV Persistence of Vision team here \o/
We already started a conversation through e-mail and we are currently learning the existing codebase together with our coach :)
We are planning on working on the REST API using Node.js and Express in the next days (after we finish the application as itself demands a lot of work and attention), as you mentioned the importance to understand the project technologies.
We are a very complimentary team as V. is definitely a backend Django and I am more into hardware with a deep wish to learn React \o/
We do have a few questions to understand more about the project.

  1. Could you please tell us a bit more about general project idea? How do you visualize the prototype working? Would that be apply in individual house water tanks? In communities? How would the system be controlled? Who would it inform? Have you already ran some tests? What could you tell us about?

  2. What is your roadmap of features for the coming months?

We are very excited to learn more about it!

best regards,
P & V

Hello @discombobulateme,

Thanks again for showing your interest. Here you go:

  1. The main idea is to provide a web-based dashboard(later mobile app too) that has mechanisms to keep the relevant stakeholder (maybe government officials) alerted in case of liquid overflow or when tank depletes. This can be extended to house water tanks too as the idea is to provide an open-source system that can be configured easily to monitor the water level of tanks. Click here to view the basic layout. See this too.

  2. Check #2, #3, #4, #5 and #6

Cheers :)

Happy Coding! ❤️

Dear @vinitshahdeo ,

Keeping you updated to our progress, last week I was concentrated learning a little bit about Node.js and Express and this is the link for the App I created with a tutorial help: https://github.com/discombobulateme/BeTheHero/tree/master/backend

Is that what you meant by indicating us (V and I) that could be a useful knowledge?

What do you recommend to be our next steps to be more involved with the project?

Hoping you and your loved ones are all healthy and nice.

P & V
