Can selected dots be encompassed in a selection "bubble?"

Where the dots are surrounded by a sort of bubble selection. This would be a fairly clean and obvious way of selection
Yes, and I've done it, but I'm not sure if I like it or not...
Maybe if I had unselected dots as little islands in the selection?
