.onion URLs not supported

I tried to scan a clearweb site via TOR proxy and it worked as expected. The scan does not work though when scanning a .onion URL.
Error message: ERROR Opening: http://....onion - no address for ....onion

Does this mean that with the current system scanning .onion sites is impossible?
