How to upgrade from 3.6.2 to 4.2.3

I have a very generic install of 3.6.2, the only change I've made is the specific setting required in the AppSettings of the appsetting.json file. I was looking for some documentation on how to upgrade to newer versions and could not seem to find any.

Can anyone give me some direction?

(the only thing I found was this...NOTE: If you have a previous version, you can not use the same appsettings.json file. Please update your settings manually editing the new file.)
