The information in this project is used in the preparation and presentation of the Citizenship in the World Merit Badge as an online workshop.

The course is expected to be broke up into 3 sessions.

Please download and print the merit badge worksheet prior to class.

Scouts, please obtain permission from a parent before visiting any online resources.

Citizenship in the World Online Merit Badge Workshop Schedule

  • March 22: Review class logistics, schedule. Review requirements and expectations. Discuss Requirements 1, 2. Discuss homework for Session 2.
  • April 5: Discuss requirements 3 & 4. Scouts should come prepared for discussion by completing homework for these requirements prior to the class. Discuss homework for Session 3.
  • April 19: Discuss requirements 5, 6 & 7. Wrap up.

Session 1 Homework

Before session 2:

Perform the following research and learning, be prepared to discuss in session 2.

  • 3.a Using the current Coronavirus pandemic as a subject, research how a country's national interest and its relationship with other countries might affect areas such as its security, its economy, its values, and the health of its citizens.
  • 3.b Select a country and research how its geography, natural resources, and climate influence its economy and its global partnerships with other countries.
  • 4.b Using resources such as major daily newspapers, the Internet (with your parent's permission), and news magazines, observe a current issue that involves international trade foreign exchange, balance of payments, tariffs, and free trade.
  • 4.c Select 2 organizations from requirement 4.c and describe their role in the world.
